Please note the Parish Council Offices at the West Dean Centre will be closed on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th October 2023

This is to make you aware of some forest operations that will be taking place over the next few weeks during June and July 2023, near Coalway in Barnhill woods. The map below shows the specific area where we will be carrying out the forestry work.

We have received a Plant Health Notice to fell infected Larch trees. The plant health notice confirms an outbreak of the disease Phytophthora Ramorum which effects Larch trees and some other tree species, such as Sweet Chestnut. The notice also gives a deadline for the removal of the infected trees, and we have delayed felling work to keep a low impact to the forest floor and minimise disruption to nesting birds. The area will look different after the removal of infected trees but will not be clear-felled because some tree species such as Douglas Fir are not affected and can remain.

For safety, we need people to avoid the area highlighted on the map and follow guidance on temporary signs in the forest about the forest operations.

More information about Phytophthora Ramorum

The disease is not harmful to people or animals. People can assist us in reducing the spread of the disease by keeping to marked paths, keeping dogs on leads and cleaning mud and leaves from boots, bikes, buggies, dogs and horses.
