Please note the Parish Council Offices at the West Dean Centre will be closed on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th October 2023

Visitors to the area may have noticed that activity is under way again in Milkwall Inclosure. We are preparing the area for planting over the next couple of months by brash raking the ground (raking brash into rows with a machine to leave bare ground in which to plant the trees).

We will be replanting this winter 2024/ 2025 after leaving the ground bare for over a year with a mixture of conifer and broadleaved species. An small area of open space will be left unplanted around the two ponds near the Family Cycle trail to create reptile and amphibian habitat adjacent to the ponds and link existing wildlife habitats.

Fencing will begin towards the end of February 2024, beginning with the southern part of the site and continuing in the northern part. Fencing is necessary to provide protection for the planted trees from deer, boar and other wildlife. We will endeavour to maintain access as far as is practically possible.

We hope to have reached an agreement with National Grid very soon so that all of the felling can be completed by the end of March 2024
